Danilo Plessow (MCDE) b2b Marcellus Pittman
CC:DISCO!
Disco, house and boogie. These are the three words that come to mind when we think of Courtney Clarke. Dj, radio host, programmer and party promoter, CC:DISCO! is one of the most talented selectors on the Australian scene.
A firm defender of dance and an expert in spreading her energy through luminous and melodic sound sequences, CC:DISCO! is all about feeling. She is on a mission to communicate the tonnes of joy she derives from her musical selection, which ranges from underground beats to iconic 80s anthems, and this is palpable in everything she does, from her sets to her monthly show on RINSE FM.
For CC:DISCO! perfect harmony is achieved if the listener moves to the beat. We don’t want to spoil the surprise, but with her at the decks, you’re not going to be able to tear yourself away from the dancefloor.
Delone
Andres Téllez aka Delone has a special sensibility for composing. Atmospheric sounds, textures and emotive melodies describe a soundscape that carries us into another dimension.
This Madrid-based producer is also known for being one half of the Dj duo Dos Attack and the founder of Riverette, a label and select vinyl shop in the capital.
Through his label he released in 2021 his first solo album, Reset All To Default, a hypnotic kaleidoscope of analogue sounds, accelerated tempos and stirring melodies.
Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul
Cultural appropriation. Misogyny and racism. Postcolonialism and political correctness. This Ghent-based duo, who burst onto the scene in 2019 with their EP Zandoli, are unconventional storytellers on the electronica scene.
Their debut album, Tropical Dancer, released recently by Soulwax’s Deewee Records, is a masterpiece of hard-hitting, irreverent electro pop and clever lyrics that gauge the temperature of the current moment. If you’re not getting their jibes, it’s because you’re not paying attention.
Energetic synths and playful rhythms camouflage a strong critique of the political and social issues that have shaped their experiences as two Europeans of immigrant descent. Theirs is a delicious and critically acclaimed manifesto that moves to the rhythms of house, techno and R&B and is sure to set the dancefloor on fire next June at Paraíso 2022.
David Ponziano
David Ponziano is a major player in Madrid’s nightlife. His impeccable work at the helm of Halley, a club he co-founded in which he holds residencies, and his presence at events such as ‘El Despertar de una Ciudad’ and ‘All’ in Tabacalera prove his commitment to the city’s most radically underground vibe.
His broad, unbiased outlook and extensive experience make for musically rich sessions that combine EBM, post punk and trance in the heat of the dancefloor to create intense, abstract and bold set-ups that have become part of Madrid’s soundscape.
Shannen SP
Shannen SP is swiftly building up a solid reputation as a Dj on the underground circuit. With her residency at NTS Radio as well as her co-curating of Hyperdub’s legendary Ø event series and her collective Nine Nights – a space for emerging forms of Afrofuturism – she is charting a new wave of experimentation focused specifically on African electronica.
Eager to explore new territories and disruptive paths, Shannen SP moves effortlessly between catchy rhythms and deep grooves, offering an Afrocentric soundtrack that meshes kuduro, gqom, amapiano and even acid-dancehall.
Next June will see Shannen SP commanding the decks in Madrid for the first time. It will be the perfect opportunity to discover an artist fast becoming a key figure of the electronic scene.
Javi Redondo B2B Álvaro Cabana
If already separately they are like a breath of fresh air on our scene, together they are an explosive mix. Javi Redondo is one of the biggest names both in and out of the capital, but his ‘partner in crime’, Álvaro Cabana, is not far behind.
Both are key to understanding the evolution of the city’s club scene, with acts as both programmers and resident DJs in such emblematic venues as Sport or Mondo Disko, among others.
With this b2b, Javi Redondo and Álvaro Cabana will make Paraíso 2022 pulsate to the rhythm of their sonic universe and take us on a journey that goes beyond conventional expectations, where disco, EBM, techno and post-punk melodies all come together. Javi Redondo and Álvaro Cabana know no limits.
Yahaira
When Yahaira left the conservatory she swapped the cello for the turntables, and suddenly everything seemed to fall into step. She found a rhythm, a sound, emerging of a range of styles including EBM, techno, dark disco and acid.
She has also worked for years as a programmer, previously at the mythical and now defunct Gora Project in Vitoria Gasteiz and, currently, at her own gig in Madrid, Gilda Club, one of the freshest events on the local electronic scene.
She is also working hard on the production of her first EP, which we can’t wait to listen to.
OG Juan
OG Juan has been a nonstop. From DJing at raves at the age of 19, he went on to co-found Undermad, a collective focused on the production of avant-garde events, and Limbo Club, his weekly session.
He is part of the team at Radio Relativa, an experimental community radio station in Madrid, and currently runs Tombolo, a label and live music promoter with a singular talent for discovering new sounds.
As if that wasn’t enough, OG Juan has also had time to delight us with his eclectic, avant-garde and exquisite sets, dipping into different territories, from rap to breaks, from disco to acid and taking us on a trip we won’t forget.
Depaart
2011 was the year that Fran and Guille met. Known artistically as Depaart, their story began the only way it could: by organizing raves while at university.
As they matured, they took their interest in dynamising the scene a step further. They had originally wanted to create a label that would allow them to unleash the sounds they were so excited about, but their love for music soon led them to where they were really meant to be, that is, producing their own beats; and so, in 2016, they released their first single, ‘Flamma’.
Two years later, they founded their daytime boutique party ‘Tortilla’, a space where the jewel of our gastronomy, the Spanish omelette, met the sets of Maribou State, Jennifer Cardini, Simian Mobile Disco or Tom Trago.
Yes, tortilla and electronica sounds like a divine combination. So we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to invite these geniuses to our booth to delight us with their live sets and, who knows, a bit of tortilla?
